It is very difficult to identify the key characteristics of a great image.  Different features will draw a person to a photo, ranging from photo quality, to the sentimental value of the captured moment, to the subject, or to the degree of humor or uniqueness of the situation.  2002 was my first fully digital year, and looking back it seems like an eternity since the days of film developing, over or under exposure, red-eye, unexpected blurry-ness, and two, three, or four copies to be mailed to friends around the world.  I tried my best to remain consistent in the criteria by which I selected these top ten images of 2002, but in the end I chose the pictures that gave me the greatest satisfaction, regardless of the reason.  Click on any picture for a full-screen view.  The top ten images of 2002 are as follows:
