Thanksgiving 1999....my parents second winter season in Scottsdale, and our first Thanksgiving celebration in the desert sun.  My parents had spent their first winter in Scottsdale the year before (1998), but we had spent that Thanksgiving driving my parents minivan, dog (Gus), and limited belongings to Scottsdale.  In 1999 they moved down a bit earlier in November, which allowed us to gather together for turkey, football, and relaxation.

Cecilia and I flew in from Houston, and my sister came in from Michigan, where she was in her Junior year at the University of Michigan.  We had no friends or additional family in Scottsdale, so we were not committed to anything besides sitting at the pool, cooking, running, etc.  It was the first time in years that we had been together in this type of situation.

Al and Lois Wilner, family friends who were also spending the winter in Scottsdale (and who had motivated my parents initial move to the desert) joined us for Thanksgiving.  I prepared my first Thanksgiving turkey, Lois brought an incredible stuffing and sauce, and Sarah and mom prepared all of the sides.  I also baked two pies - cherry and pumpkin - which may have my highlight of the meal.  I don't remember who was playing football that day, but I do remember having a perfect time relaxing and watching the games.

1999 was one of the best Thanksgivings within memory, and we have been fortunate enough to enjoy the same success in the past two years....
