Halloweens of the Past

Halloween 1995
Halloween 1995 was a year of smurfs.  I had just moved back to Chicago from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), and was living and working in Naperville while going to school at night at Northwestern University.  We met at Adam and Sara's house to prepare, which consisted of painting our faces blue and crafting white hats from old sweatpant legs.  Lisa, Adam, Sara, and I went to a local bar, where we met up with George (dressed as Indiana Jones), and Mark (dressed as a pilot whose plane had just been shot down).  The fake blood on Mark's shirt and face appeared so real that most people were too afraid to talk to him.  Poor Mark....

Halloween 1997
1997 was my second year in Houston, and my first real Houston Halloween.  I had been working at Schlumberger for a full year, and now had a good group of friends.  We bought tickets to a concert held in an old bank building in downtown Houston, and met at my apartment (Pin Oak Park) to prepare beforehand.  Our group consisted of Dave (clown hair), Lee (toga), Chris (scarecrow), Aida (angel), and I (joker).  My costume was completely home-made, including both sunglasses and question marks on my silk shirt.  Pretty impressive eh?  I really liked Chris' scarecrow outfit (especially the potato-sack head), but it itched him pretty badly by the end of night.  The bank party was excellent, and featured a haunted house in the basement vault.

Halloween 1998
A lot happened between Halloween 1997 and 1998.....new friends Scott and Andy posed perfectly as nuns (with yellow sunglasses), while Chris (Indiana Jones) brought his new girlfriend (fiancé?) and soon-to-be wife Marcie (Miss Understood).  I helped Cecilia build her cavewoman outfit - can you tell that it was designed by a male?  Aida, Lee, and Amy posed as gangsters, Byron as a monk, Vic as Underdog, and myself as a giant bumblebee.  Again, my costume was completely made by hand, including the striped shirt and antenna.  My favorite part was dying my hair yellow.  1998 was one of my best Halloweens ever....

Halloween 1999
1999 was another great year for Halloween costumes.  I crafted a gladiator costume (before the movie was released), and Andy cured his mummy wrap in tea leaves for a week.  Scott and Kelly appeared as 1950's prom dates, Cecilia as Cleopatra, Mindy as the love bug, and Vic as a redneck.  The Halloween party at Kelly's friend's house was good, but not the same as the previous year (kudos to Lee for having a great 1998 party). Andy's mummy outfit ended the night cut into shreds on our apartment floor - apparently he could not get it off as easily as he got it on.

Halloween 2000
The costumes of Halloween 2000 were sub-standard.  I scraped together a "elderly Florida tourist" outfit at the last minute, and Scott and Andy reused their old nun costumes.  Olivier used a simple swimmer's outfit, and I can't even remember what Vic, Dave, and Kristen were wearing.  The three impressive costumes of the night were worn by Toby (painted skull face and bow tie), Cecilia (outfit from the star of the movie "Flashdance"), and Todd - who combined a palm tree and various other articles into an unknown and almost unrecognizable costume.  We started the night at a Toadies concert near downtown Houston, where Andy and Todd lost or destroyed their costumes while *dancing* in the mosh pit.  Andy also emerged from the pit covered in mustard, which stayed with him for the rest of the evening.  After the concert we went to a party at Eloy's friend's house, which featured some outrageous superhero costumes and an ice block in the backyard.

Halloween 2001
Halloween 2001 coincided with the Schlumberger chili cookoff, and featured our famous "Caribou Chili" igloo booth and eskimo outfits.  The event was so impressive that it earned its own dedicated website....
