In
2002 Cecilia and I hosted a Halloween
party at our apartment in Paris. It was a great night, with highlights
ranging from salsa dancing to flaming pumpkins to a singing Elvis.
We retired our stereo after that night, and we still find evidence of the
party one year later - from Mike's gorilla fur behind the couch to Helena's
red face paint on the wall in the hallway. But it was well worth
the sacrifice. This year, in 2003, we were spared of a repeat event
when our friend Robin offered to have a costume party at his new (and gigantic)
apartment - recently renovated from an old yogurt manufacturing plant.
Once again our friends stepped up to the challenge of finding or making great costumes, and once again we enjoyed a great Halloween party in Paris. The local news press claimed that Halloween celebrations and related revenues were down from previous years, due to anti-American sentiment emerging after the war in Iraq. But we saw no difference in enthusiasm over the holiday weekend. Cecilia dressed as a schoolgirl, while I crafted my own "Frost Miser" costume - it was on par with my caveman outfit from the previous year, but involved a bit more painting and time. Marc won an award for the "best costume that your mother would not want to see you in", for a skeleton outfit that was equipped with a few additional bones.
Robin's apartment is not carpeted, so the cleanup was minimal after
the night, and no fire extinguishers were needed to put out flaming pumpkins.
Hopefully we behaved well enough that he will have us back again.
Thanks Robin! The following are some great pictures from the night:
