Halloween, October 2002

Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year.  The holiday demands creativity, is always fun, and offers a change-of-pace from the normal daily life.  We have always gone to great Halloween parties at friends' houses, but have never thrown one ourselves.  Cecilia and I decided that this year it was our turn to be the hosts.  It was a small sacrifice for the apartment, but it was well worth the results.

Halloween is a relatively "new" holiday in France, and has been commercially promoted for only the past five years.  For many of our French friends, it was their first costume Halloween party.  Earlier in the week, we had carved pumpkins at a friends' house, which was also a first-time experience for many of our friends.  Despite the lack of Halloween experience, this year featured the best assortment of costumes that I have ever seen at a Halloween party!  Cecilia crafted her own "Little Red Riding Hood" costume, and I made my own caveman outfit (after abandoning the Miss Universe idea).  The following are some of the great images from the night.....

A Very Happy Obelisk
A Dead Monk, Cruella DeVille, and a Gypsy
Peace to Everyone....
A Stoplight Turned into a Viking?
A Blinking Cowboy, Cowgirl, and a Frenchman!
Ain't Nothing but a Hound dog....
Scary Clown
Milk in Your Drink Anyone?
Tina Turner and her Matador
What exactly are you Roger?
Aaron and the Devil
Titanic Passenger, Bat, Scream Killer, and Zena-X!

Thanks to Nathalie and Marie-Pierre, we had a great assortment of tarts and chicken-salad.  Unfortunately it did not last long....And thanks to everyone who came, we actually had alcohol to spare at the end of the party.  I am also proud to say that my stereo speakers, which dated back to 1989, did not make it past the end of the night.  This is always a good sign of a good party, and I am happy to make a speaker upgrade.  Despite the music and dancing, we received no complaints (so far) from our neighbors and had no interruptions from the police.  We'll see what letters appear in our mailbox on Monday.  A few images from later in the night:

Even Aaron's Drink Matches the Outfit
