Aaron's Michigan Bachelor Party, August 2003
The
best single-day bachelor party that I have ever attended was for Mark Langille
in the fall of 1996. We went sky-diving during the afternoon, then
had a BBQ and party on top of his Chicago apartment deck later that night.
Those of us who still had any energy remaining went to the bars afterwards.
There was no nudity, no strippers, just a bit of adrenaline and good conversation.
The best multi-day bachelor party that I have ever attended was my own
– a three-night trip to Mark’s cabin chalet on a small lake in southwest
Michigan. Eight guys, three nights, and one isolated lakehouse in
the Michigan countryside. You can imagine the results…even though
there were no strippers involved, we were still able to satisfy many of
the typical bachelor party criteria:
-
Nudity: Fortunately these guys spared me a trip to the strippers,
which is not one of my favorite activities. Instead, Vic satisfied
our nudity criteria with two brief bouts without clothing – one to retrieve
his bathing suit that had been stripped and hung on the volleyball net,
and another after having his pants pulled down on the chalet deck.
-
Visit to the emergency room: Satisfied by Alex after diving headfirst
into a dock pylon during a game of tackle water football.
-
Alcohol: We spent more money on alcohol than on food, gas, and all
other expenses combined. Enough said.
-
Gambling: We needed a spot to meet along the highway to Mark’s house,
as we had 8 guys and 2 separate cars. The most obvious landmark along
the highway was the Horseshoe Casino, just across the Illinois-Indiana
border. Andy, Ur, and I stopped there for one hour before the other
car of guys arrived. This was more than enough time for me to lose
$100 at the craps table.
We arrived to Mark's house late on Thursday night, and quickly made ourselves
at home. Some of the highlights from our time spent on the deck:
Late-night charades on the deck

In-depth marriage consultation & discussion

Corn on the BBQ

The Langille bachelor chalet

Crab boil success
|
The best man studying his favorite beer

We spent the majority of the next three days either on the deck or on/in
the water, including the following activities:
-
Waterskiing, including night skiing. My biceps were sore for the
entire week following the event.
-
Crab boil! Kudos to Vic for conceiving this idea, and to Mark for
making it happen.
-
BBQing. A weekend standard.
-
Watervolleyball. I think that I won 1 game the entire weekend, but
it was fun anyway.
-
Waterfootball. Fun until Alex dove in the dock pylon.
-
Other misc time spent in the water, or on Mark’s deck. I still need
to perfect my dock jumping skills.
-
Lake cruising....8 guys in a skiboat!
Some of the highlights from our time spent on/in the water:
Boogie in the boat
|
Water football
|
Alex, 8 stitches inflicted by dock-water football
|
Fumble!
|
On the water at sunset
|
Todd's great wall of water

Thanks to everyone for making it a great weekend. Special thanks
to Vic for organizing the event, and to Mark for hosting it. Now
it is my turn to make my wedding weekend a special one for everyone.
See you in Paris!
